May The Force Be With You

If you know anything about my boyfriend Nic, it is that he is the world's biggest Star Wars fan. Even at his age, he continues to wear the t-shirts, collects all the figurines (they are not dolls, he's told me many times), can name all the characters/planets and he also reads all the books the franchise comes out with. Seriously, what a nerd! (lucky for him I love that about him)

Every year or two there are Star War conventions in certain cities (most recently Orlando, Anaheim and London) and the whole weekend is spent celebrating all things Star Wars related. They show you snippets of upcoming movies before the rest of the public, there are millions of merchandise for sale, movie props to look at and you can even meet some of the cast members from the films.

I'm not really a big Star Wars fan myself, I've watched the movies but I couldn't tell you most of the characters names or even what they are fighting about. But I still enjoy going to the conventions with Nic because I know how happy it makes him (awwwww) and it's actually become somewhat of a tradition because Nic took me to the convention for our second date way back when we first started dating. I've never been on a date to a convention before so I agreed and now we're regular attendees.

Strawberry Fields Salad

Happy first official day of Spring!

With warm weather approaching and swimsuit season peeking its ugly head around the corner, I wanted to share one of my favorite salads recipes. It's one I sell at the cafe and not only is it easy to make, it tastes just as good as it looks.

Grilled chicken also goes really well with this salad if you are looking to add some protein.

For this recipe, I only included ingredients and not measurements because depending on whether you make this as a side salad to accompany a meal or as a meal in itself, the measurements will be different. This salad is pretty much fail-proof so use as much or as little of the ingredients you like and omit the ones you don't.

Strawberry Fields Salad

♡ Spinach
♡ Strawberries, sliced
♡ Red onion, sliced
♡ Feta cheese, crumbled
♡ Walnuts
♡ Balsamic vinaigrette dressing
♡ Grilled chicken (optional)

Torrey Pines

One thing to know about San Diegans is that they love to hike. There are tons of hiking trails in this city and most of them come with beautiful views if you're willing to make it to the top.

One of the very first hikes I did after moving to San Diego was Torrey Pines. Compared to the other trails/mountains, it's pretty short so it's perfect for beginners like myself. There are also smaller trails along the way up so you're able to see the views from different points of the mountain. The best part of is that at the end of the hike you will end up at the bottom of the mountain, right onto the beach. I don't care how cold that water is, you gotta soak your feet in!

My advice is, if you have the morning or afternoon off - put on some sneakers, rub on sunblock on and grab a bottle of water and make the trek up Torrey Pines. Sometimes I forget that I live in one of the most beautiful cities but as soon I take the hike up there I always fall back in love with it.
